Mojo Helium: High-Performance with Distance, Sensitivity & Power
One of my favourites in the Mojo Works current line-up, the #Helium 14ft surfcasting rod is a ‘reel’ standout. It’s a 3-piece rod with quality Fuji eyes and a reel seat, built light (under 500g) but still tough where it counts.
With a casting weight of 80–200g, it’s super versatile. Casting 5–6oz sinkers feels effortless, and it sends baits a long way with excellent accuracy.
The rod has a fast-medium action — it loads well during the cast, giving smooth, long-distance delivery, while the tip remains sensitive enough to feel subtle bites.
The backbone is strong enough to handle big fish without feeling stiff or harsh in the hand.
Paired with a sample Mugen Metal Storm 14000 reel, still being tested for NZ conditions, (quietly confident they’ll be available soon)— spooled with 15lb braid and 15–50lb tapered leader 👌🏼.
It handled my 21 lb snapper PB off Auckland’s North Shore without a problem.
The overall feel is balanced and responsive, making long sessions comfortable and precise.
✅ Pros: lightweight under 500g, wide 80–200g cast range, strong backbone, quality Fuji components, long 14ft length perfect for surfcasting distance, smooth fast-medium action with responsive tip, comfortable balance.
Overall, a high-performance rod that balances distance, sensitivity, and power, and is well-priced compared to similar rods from other brands. Definitely one I’d recommend to anyone looking to upgrade their current setup.
